My entire world came crashing down around me the day I was diagnosed with Barrett's esophagus.
My doctor had insisted and specifically told me that GERD and Acid Reflux are a lifetime condition I would have to live with and that there was no cure. Since that day:
I felt ill during the evening or through the night, or early morning. At night I was afraid to eat if I do eat I was afraid to sleep!
I forced myself to eat food that tasted worse than cardboard simply to avoid heartburn.
I got really bad trapped wind, which hurt like hell in my solar plexus and chest. It was so terrible, I felt so sick and my stomach (under my ribs) felt like I had been punched in it about 10 times.
I would have these headaches all day and very painful.
I gave up all my tasty favorite foods ?? (meat, milk, cereal, yogurt, etc). I was so terrified to eat anything because as soon as I ate I started burping within seconds developing heartburn followed by regurgitation.
I took overpriced prescription medication and antacids such as Prilosec, Prevacid or Nexium. I woke up frequently at night with a pain in my chest, worrying that I will end up in the hospital.
My biggest fear was having cancer from acid reflux and that I will never have my life completely back.
I became more and more miserable by the day. I was convinced there's nothing I could do. I felt like I was slowly dying. I was scared to sleep every night.
I have had severe chest pains, that took my breath away at the time, much worse at night when I was lying in bed.
Searching for a Cure
I followed all the strict rules my doctor gave me. Avoiding all the good stuff and dealing with the bad stuff.
But after weeks and even years of doctors visits, experimenting with various medications, pumps, and diets the only results were my symptoms got worse.
I mean, how can anyone live like this?
I felt like a lab rat!
I avoided my favorite cup of coffee in the morning and that delicious and heart-healthy glass of red wine at night.
I avoided meat, milk, cereal, yogurt, orange juice, I even couldn't eat chocolate anymore and I love chocolate :-(

I told my husband several times...
"I'm convinced there's nothing I can do now. it's so terrible, and I've never seen anyone have this problem like I do. Every single activity of every day I live is affected by this condition and I burp hundreds of times a day, being careful not to do it too hard for fear of vomiting up anything that's in my stomach."
I recall numerous instances where my dry Barrett's cough would cause people to avoid shaking my hand. I was embarrassed.
"That is my biggest fear at this point. I don't want to be stuck on a drug, that if staying on it for years can damage my body, because of hellish withdrawal. I just want gastritis and reflux gone and be done with it. It has been a nightmare already, enough is enough."
…until a random visit to my family doctor turned my life upside down.
It was a Wednesday morning.
I could not eat anything other than fruits and vegetables for 2 weeks because anything else would make my stomach acid to get aggressive and cause tremendous gas pressure and my throat would feel like it was closing up. My head would have these headaches all day and very painful after anything goes in my stomach. I lost all hope. I felt like I was slowly dying.
So my husband wanted to get me into the doctor to see what was wrong.
After a bunch of tests ( damn needles, I hate needles), I finally sat there in the office waiting to see the doctor.
After what seemed like forever, he finally entered the room.
I could tell immediately from the look on his face when he walked in the room something wasn't right. I immediately began to feel nervous.
All the while in the back of my mind I knew there was a good chance I could have CANCER!
"I suspect that you have Barrett's esophagus" he began.
"Barrett's esophagus is a serious complication of GERD and according to a new study Barrett's esophagus increases the risk to develop cancer of the esophagus, a disease that is particularly lethal, by 78%"

My mind began to race, The thought of not seeing my children get married or graduate and the thought of my family suffering through my early decline and premature death was unbearable.
I was frustrated, scared, desperate and...
I felt like I needed to swallow but I couldn’t and my heart started pounding.
At that moment, reality hit me like a ton of bricks. I took a deep breath and when I exhaled, the tears started flowing.
I continued to cry for what seemed like forever. It was an utterly helpless feeling.
Somehow I felt this all must be my fault, as unfair as it seemed, even though I'd done my best to follow the doctors' orders.
As I cried, my husband began to cry too.
I realized at that moment that unless I figured out how to reverse my Acid Reflux quickly, there was a good chance I would become a burden to him for the rest of my life, destroying all our dreams and things would never be the same again.
In all honesty, I very nearly gave up at that moment, but then something inside me snapped...and I decided, I wasn't just going to accept what my doctor was telling me.

When I got home, I started researching like crazy, and what I found was shocking.
To my surprise, I discovered that almost everyone is getting ripped off by the drug and pharmaceutical companies.
The vast majority of prescription drugs, not just those aimed at treating heartburn, can severely damage your delicate natural internal balance, interfere with liver function, build up toxins in your body, slow down your metabolism and lead to serious side effects.
British medical scientists have recently linked PPI drugs to Osteoporosis (bone loss). Additionally, taking more than one medication in many cases results in serious reactions between the different drugs as one drug can change or even worse, enhance the effect of the other drug. This can lead to harmful consequences.
It is well known that Drugs like Prilosec, Prevacid or Nexium aimed at treating acid reflux are to be taken for a period of no more than 8 weeks. The reason for that is that these drugs if taken for longer periods can actually stimulate your stomach to produce extra amounts of acid.
This occurs because of a hormone called Gastrin, which is produced by the body when these drugs are taken. Overproduction of Gastrin can often lead to cancer in the esophagus or pancreas as cells in these areas grow too large as a reaction to the overproduction of Gastrin.
Not only do Antacids such as Tums, Pepcid, Zantac, and Rolaids deal with the symptoms of acid reflux and not with the underlying cause, antacids can also lead to high blood pressure, Alzheimer's Disease and even cancer. Moreover, breaking up the acid in the stomach can eventually make your heartburn worse, since stomach acid helps us absorb nutrients and is the first line of defense against candida (which can lead to acid reflux and heartburn).
And that was just the beginning.

When I discovered this, I could barely believe it.
